This story about a company who fired an employee for complaining about mold in her workplace is a perfect example of the cover ups and lies that currently surround the world of toxic mold.
It also proves that if you speak up and fight back against these greedy corporations, businesses and employers who are putting people’s lives in danger, you can win the battle.
The facts are that there are many people and businesses who have a lot of money to lose if the truth about the dangers of mold are exposed to the world.
For example last month, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) had fined IFCO Services N.A. (IFCO) $105,000 for terminating their office manager, Debra Walters after she had filed anonymous complaint about mold in her workplace with OSHA.
Ms. Walters made the report after IFCO Services had conducted a mold inspection on the property which revealed that significant amounts of toxic mold was discovered growing on the wall behind the filing cabinets. The company failed to clean up the mold after the testing was performed which further exposed Ms. Walters and the company’s failure to remove all affected employees from that work area so she reported it to OSHA.
OSHA then notified IFCO Services that someone filed the complaint, and they subsequently fired her.
After an investigation, OSHA filed a whistleblower retaliation complaint against IFCO under Section 11(c) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
IFCO later agreed to compensate Ms. Walters back pay, front pay, and medical expenses, and to remove from its records any reference to the whistleblower’s involuntary discharge, place in its records a document reflecting that the whistleblower voluntarily resigned, and tell prospective employers that the whistleblower’s job performance was satisfactory.
IFCO also agreed to post OSHA documents about job safety and to distribute to its employees an OSHA fact sheet titled Filing Whistleblower Complaints under Section 11(c) the OSH Act of 1970.
