Northeast Ohio Mayor, Tom Scarnecchia of Niles was hospitalized this past week after he fell ill from toxic mold symptoms that were linked to water damage and mold that was found at the City Hall where he had worked.
The mold was due to recent heavy rains that caused the roof to leak. It was found in various areas of City Hall, and in the Mayor’s office above his desk.
Scarnecchia told the media he’d been feeling sick for approximately two weeks.
After the mold was found and the mayor had got sick, the city had sectioned off the areas of the building where the mold was found. The water damage and mold cannot be remediated until the City Hall roof is repaired.
Employees in the mayor’s and city auditor’s offices were temporarily relocated until the building is fixed and the mold removed.
