Many of us who suffer from a mold illness and various fungal infections are searching for natural treatments to help fight against these grape seed extractforeign invaders who are trying to over take our bodies. One of nature’s wonders that I have found through the course of my research that may help you is grape seed extract. It has been proven in clinical studies to protect against fungal infections, like candida and bacterial infections, such as Staphylococcus aureus.

Some studies I discovered have shown that grape seed extract may be a great weapon to fight against various types of fungi such as Geotrichum, Aspergillus and PeniciIlium sp. Researches say that the Antioxidants in grape seed extract may also help reduce the risk of developing cancer, and studies have found that it may prevent the growth of breast, stomach, colon, prostate, and lung cancer cells in test tubes.

Grape seed extract has countless benefits such as boosting the immune system, fighting inflammation, and protecting our DNA. There is new research that backs these statements up which I will share with you below, showing grape seed extract may help prevent various forms of cancer, Alzheimer’s, heart disease, high blood pressure, and also treat hypertension or high blood pressure, nerve damage, edema, chronic venous insufficiency, blood pools in the legs, causing pain, swelling, fatigue, and visible veins.

What I also found is that this is not some new treatment and/or idea. In fact, grapes and the grape plant have been used as a natural treatment for thousands of years by many ancient cultures. The Egyptians ate grapes approximately 6,000 years ago, and several ancient Greek philosophers praised the healing power of grapes, usually in the form of wine. European folk healers made an ointment from the sap of grapevines to treat skin and eye diseases.(1)

THE NUTRITIONAL VALUE

Grape seeds are extremely rich in nutrients, antioxidants, Vitamin E, flavonoids, linoleic acid, and OPCs are highly concentrated in grape seeds. The health benefits of grapes are thought to arise mainly from bioactivities of their polyphenols. Anthocyanins, flavonoids, and resveratrol are the major functional components that are responsible for most of biological activities of the grape.

According to Natural News, these polyphenols include resveratrol and unique oligomeric proanthocyanidin complexes (OPC’s). The most potent form is in grape seed extract, as it contains 95% OPC’s, which is more than any other antioxidant extract. OPC’s help the body produce glutathione, which is the master antioxidant that protects DNA and strengthens the immune system. They also increase intracellular vitamin C levels and strengthen capillaries and thus improve blood oxygen circulation throughout the body. These antioxidants also act to protect soft tissue collagen in the joints and skin from free radical damage and premature aging.

THE RESEARCH

A research paper published in 1990 in the Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine titled, “Oral Citrus Seed Extract in Atopic Eczema: In Vitro and In Vivo Studies,” had shown that a serial dilutions of a citrus seed extract (ParaMycrocidin) were highly effective against different yeasts and molds (Candida, Geotrichum,Aspergillus and PeniciIlium sp.). The oral treatment of the extract was mostly effective against Candida, Geotrichum sp. and hemolytic E. Coli.(2)

In 2007, a study was published titled, “Synergic effect of grape seed extract with amphotericin B against disseminated candidiasis due to Candida albicans,” showing the effect of grape seed extract (GSE) against the fungus. Their results showed that the GSE alone inhibited growth of Candida yeast cells.(3)

A study called, “Anticancer and Cancer Chemopreventive Potential of Grape Seed Extract and Other Grape-Based Products,” had researched the medical literature over the years that strongly suggests that grape seeds are a potential source of anticancer and cancer chemopreventive phytochemicals, the other parts of the grape such as the skin, the whole grape by itself, grape-derived raisins, and phytochemicals present within the grapes have also demonstrated potential anticancer efficacy in various preclinical and clinical studies.  The researcher concluded that consumption of grapes and/or grape-related products in diets along with maintaining an active healthy lifestyle has both practical and translation potential in the fight against cancer and is thus beneficial to the general population.(4)

The good news is that studies such as the “Biological Activities of Polyphenols from Grapes,” have shown the Phenolic compounds in grapes, especially in grape seeds, have showed significant anti-inflammation effects on rats, mice and humans.(5)

Researchers in this study concluded “that the health benefits of grapes are thought to arise mainly from bioactivities of their polyphenols. Anthocyanins, flavonoids and resveratrol are the major functional components that are responsible for most of the biological activities of grape. The structural diversities and pronounced biological activities of compounds in grape indicate that grape are worthy of further studies that may lead to the identification of new functional constituents.

The polyphenols from grape will widely be employed to prevent and treat these diseases in association with reactive oxygen species, such as atherosclerosis, coronary heart diseases and cancer.”
